Sharjah Police recorded more than 21,000 breaches of Covid-19 restrictions at the emirate’s labour camps.
Patrols detected the infringements during inspections from May 20 to October 1. At least 7,000 were found in the industrial areas.
Failing to wear masks, not adhering to physical distancing rules and carrying too many passengers accounted for many of the issues.
Police launched an information campaign over the past few months to raise awareness about Covid-19, where 170,089 leaflets in multiple languages were distributed outlining the need to follow public health rules to curb the spread of Covid-19.
It comes as cases in the UAE reached a new high on Saturday, with 1,538 new infections.
Authorities have repeatedly urged people to follow the rules and take information about the pandemic from official sources.
