UFC Fight Island 6: Brian Ortega hits the comeback trail against Korean Zombie in Abu Dhabi

Dubai: The UFC is ready to roll out another stacked card on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi on Sunday morning, which sees the long-awaited return of American Brian Ortega, who is tackling Chan Sung Jung, ‘The Korean Zombie’, in the mainline goal-built Flash Forum arena.

Ortega, the blue-eyed and hammer fist of Mexican immigrants, has not fought since his 2018 loss to Max Holloway due to a doctor interruption at the end of the fourth round.

Despite winning the Fight of the Night award, Ortega sustained injuries due to being hit more than 300 times during the 20 minutes in the Octagon.

Clearly, he has learned his lessons to stand up and act the hard way, and he will try to take his Korean opponent to the ground and force a submission.

It will also be interesting to see how much Ortega has improved physically and mentally during the last two years of absence and what plan he will use to curb his highly regarded rival who missed two years of MMA from 2014 to 2017 due to compulsory military service. in his native South Korea.

In the media during the UFC’s virtual media day earlier this week, Ortega got excited and sounded excited about the fight and cleared away all the rubbish he was facing through the Korean.

“It was never a rival man. “Yes, it was never a rivalry,” he said. ‘I just, he spoke his sh * t and I spoke my sh * t, but it was more like: if this is how you’re going to be, this is how I’m going to be.

‘And when I made it clear if you really wanted a rivalry, that’s how it’s going to turn out, then we heard all the excuses. It was just closed and that was it ”

A win on Sunday will put both fighters in contention for a title fight against Alex Volkanovski, but Ortega had his own point of view.

‘I think of everyone in the department. He has the belt, so he has a target on his back, which means we are practicing for everyone now, ‘he said. “We train for guys like Zabit, guys like Korean, guys like Holloway, guys like Volkanovski.”

Meanwhile, rising star Ciryl Gane is tackling newcomer Ante Delija.

Gane has been impressive in the UFC so far, having scored two wins for the submission in his first three fights and had a unanimous decision. Delija is a tough Croatian who lost to UFC veteran Marcin Tybura due to a leg injury.

In an exciting women’s flyweight event, Kaitlyn Chookagian faces former straw man title holder Jessica Andrade in a battle that could have big consequences for both for a potential title fight against current champion Valentina Shevchenko.

This is the third weight class for Andrade in UFC after success in both bantam weight and sprint weight.
